January is probably one of my favorite months of the year. My favorite is probably September, followed by January and then June. I guess I like months that seem to set new rhythms for life. June is fun because it is not boiling hot, our kids are home from school, and it is the beginning of summer. September because the kids go back to school, haha – and it is probably the nicest weather month we get here in Northern Indiana.
I am not a real goal oriented guy, goals don’t really motivate me. At least in the sense of the fake new year resolution type of goals. I look at those as cheap marketing and phony book sale and motivational speaker money grabs. This past January I decided to write out a pretty casual list of things I would like to see happen in 2023. I have specific family goals, business goals, and personal development as well, but those aren’t as fun to post on social media, ha.
Pretty ambitious right? So here is an update after the first month.
Karaoke – I booked a trip to Key West for my 40th birthday in November, so we’ll see if I get brave there.
Reading – I started a book. I haven’t finished it yet, maybe I need smaller books.
Nap on a boat – it’s winter…can’t do that yet.
Bike Riding – I logged 243.8 miles on the Peloton in January and 15 miles on the road for a total of 258.8 miles – not a bad month!
Guitar – Haven’t played yet..
Eating – I have definitely been eating better, less asian food – more protein and vegetables. I have lost almost 10 lbs in a month.
Social Media – kinda been same.
Kids – One of the things I have loved about January have been some of the delays and snow days. Having flexibility in my work schedule is such a blessing, so I think that area is a win!
AirPods – I found my AirPods! They were in my truck hiding in a cup holder, how neat.
One of the best parts about January has been the consistency I have found with working out. I have really enjoyed the accountability, consistency and rides with my Peloton. I have had this bike for a few years, I think I am up to around 150 or so rides, but January was my most consistent by far. It is amazing at how you can train your body to get into a rhythm and the results that come from it. I have lost 10lbs, my blood pressure has gotten back under control, my average heart rate has lowered, I am sleeping better, and seem to have more energy. Pretty remarkable in just 30 days time.
I’ll write again in February and see where things are at! In the meantime, here are a few of my favorite moments from January.
